Morgan Catalina (she/her) is an accomplished curator and cultural producer, initiating and executing over 500 events in the last ten years. Her portfolio includes notable positions such as curator at SXSW and projects with creators and organisations as diverse as The Smithsonian Institute, Hans Ulrich Obrist, A$AP Rocky and The Obama White House. 


Since moving to Amsterdam, she collaborated with queer, nomadic foundation NIET NORMAAL to produce large scale exhibitions such as COME ALIVE and FAKE ME HARD, working with over 150 artists and gaining national press coverage. Focusing now on sexuality as research and art practice, she achieved ceritification as a Holistic Sexuality Educator (CHSE) at the Institute for Sexuality Education, and completed the Professional Training in Compassionate Inquiry, Dr. Gabor Mate’s &#38;amp; Sat Dharam Kaur’s psychotherapeutic approach to healing trauma.&#38;nbsp;


Always immersing herself in new worlds, Morgan's work extends to a wide range of formats, from hosting events for Queen Maxima in Davos to providing education on kink and BDSM and tour managing a punk band.&#38;nbsp;


Her ongoing research into how we shape technology and it in turn shapes us continues to educate and strengthen communities by translating abstract concepts into provocative shared experiences.

Oscar Peters’ monumental new installation The Gift of Fury explored collective grief, joy and the need for hope in the face of contemporary alienation, drawing upon other cultures and rituals as well as cinematic traditions of world building. The work consisted of several large scale sculptures and was supported by Stichting Collectors of Contemporary Art as part of their annual curator award. The Gift of Fury was on view at the iconic Van Nelle Fabriek, as part of Art Rotterdam‘s expansive new outdoor art program marking their 25th anniversary.The work was kindly supported by Mondriaan Fonds.

Peters’ work addresses a key paradox in contemporary western society, that we are increasingly connected, yet increasingly isolated. While global connectivity offers access to the horror of the 24 hour news cycle around the world, many of us face a new sense of helplessness, outrage and alienation without the traditional communal structures to process primal emotions such as fear, grief, despair. 

Fury is born out of those deep emotions, setting a passionate path of purpose. It is not necessarily a blind anger, but rather a directed or guided rage, with a potent goal, either to destroy or create. It honors the complexity of loss, mourning and melancholy through its expansive worldbuilding. If we accept the impotent rage of helplessness, we may eventually reclaim agency. By entering the piece one is no longer an observer, but a participant in creating the ritual. Stepping into a shared place for grief, audience members contribute to the communal healing. 
Above all, Peters invites us into the cinematic landscape of this installation to feel – the awe, the terror, the uneasiness, the grief – for our personal and collective losses. The space he creates does not attempt to provide answers to the violent urge for destruction, but it invites our attention to alternate possibilities. It’s up to us to form new rituals, engage our neighbors and bear witness to uncomfortable but uniquely human sensations. To contemplate being in Peters’ communal stockade is terrifying, but we’re in it together.

Like walking onto a film set, or into an alternate universe, the installation evokes strong feelings, like those inspired by the romantic, almost sentimental depictions in pre-raphaelite paintings of death, loss, grief, and mourning.Fury is born out of those emotions, setting a passionate path of purpose. Fury is not necessarily a blind anger, but rather a directed or guided rage, with a potent goal, either to destroy or create. By entering the installation one is no longer an observer, but a participant in creating the ritual, stepping into a shared place for grief, in contributing to the communal healing. Touch the altar, hear the bells, feel the hairs on the back of your neck raise. Wander the barren battlefield, sensing what's left after the battle, recreating the scene. Imagine the necromancer's enchantments bringing back the dead. Facing the body’s stages of decay, one begins with literal giant bones and a ribcage with the organs still gasping for air inside, then advances to the rather ephemeral: the sacrificial altar representing the mental sacrifices we make to get to where we want to be. Having to say goodbye, moving on, the mental fortitude to keep trying again and starting over. 
The new dawn offers a symbol of hope against a backdrop of a powerful army marching against you. Thousands of red ribbons shaking rhythmically representing an advancing force, slow and steady, perpetually coming over the hill. 
Terrifying horror of slow death. Violence cloaked in tranquility. Peace through sacrifice.

About Oscar Peters
Oscar Peters (1981) predominantly makes large scale kinetic sculpture. He holds a BA in Fine Art from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and a Master of Fine Art from Carnegie Mellon University. He has exhibited his work all over the world, with exhibitions from the United States to Japan. One of his biggest installations to date was featured on Het Klokhuis, inspiring young artists to build. He has appeared on Kunst is Lang and Nooit Meer Slapen, and was featured in Metropolis M, Het Parool, Trouw, NRC and Volkskrant, among others. 

Currently he’s exploring larger themes of loss, grief, and fury. Peters is fascinated by simulated violence. The urge for destruction is part of humanity in this weird obscene way, we possess a morbid desire to watch violence or another person in danger. Who doesn’t watch a horror flick every now and then? Very exhilarating and very safe at the same time, this paradox is exactly what interests Peters the most. Humans are the only species that actively seek out danger: we voluntarily strap ourselves to a rollercoaster and put ourselves in harm's way. We get off on that feeling you get right before you plummet into the abyss. Tempting fate plays a big part in his practice. The naughty, slightly uncomfortable, edge-of-your-seat feeling – that is what Peters wants art to be.

About Stichting Collectors of Contemporary Art&#38;nbsp;The Collectors of Contemporary Art Foundation (CoCA) consists of a group of eight collectors of contemporary art.&#38;nbsp;They have united with the aim of stimulating the work of young, promising artists in the Netherlands by making an annual work grant available. 

Every year, CoCA invites someone who knows their way around the contemporary Dutch art landscape. As a curator, he or she compiles a shortlist of artists who meet the profile of CoCA. One of them receives a sum of money from the Foundation to realize a project of his choice in complete freedom. The resulting work (or an edition thereof) becomes the property of the Foundation. In this way a collection is created.

COME ALIVE celebrated eroticism as a life force in these precarious times. Through touch, image, scent, sound, performance and play, more than 45 artists pulled out all the stops to give our bodies a voice as the first and most important gatekeeper. Sharing "love without reason" in all its abundance allows new insights and helps us to unlearn inherited behaviours. In the old melting room of the Nieuwe Muntgebouw in Utrecht, Netherlands, where once rock-hard coins were minted, everything became fluid.

Vitality and precarity may appear to be opposites, but they are in fact two sides of the same coin. Moments of crisis and scarcity are much more bearable when we are close to each other. The most trying times bring people together and make us recognize what really matters. Eroticism is about connection, and is capable of reshaping entire societies, which is precisely why it is so often regulated by authoritarian regimes. 
We don’t have to accept external controls, we have within us everything we need to create alternatives. We only need to remind ourselves to be playful again, to push our boundaries and discover new worlds. The magic of sensual play with the unexpected other is what makes us feel alive.

COME ALIVE invited us to unbox our sexualities, discard our preconceptions and make space for new possibilities. By stepping inside the halls Vibrate, Embrace, Extend and Climax we were granted permission to experience new forms of pleasure, letting our bodies react to the scents, sights and sounds. This manifestation posed an invitation to curiosity where we can explore without fear of judgement, letting ourselves move and be moved within the exhibition.

In a place where once rock hard coins were minted, you may now become fluid. Unbox your sexuality, discard your preconceptions, make space for new possibilities. By stepping inside these halls you are granted permission to your pleasure. Let your body react to the scents, sights and sounds. This manifestation is an invitation to curiosity where you can play without fear of judgement, letting yourself move and be moved within the exhibition. 
COME ALIVE proposes a step towards reclaiming agency in these disempowering times. Eroticism can be a soft weapon against the systemic precarity we all face under socially distanced, neoliberal techno-capitalist surveillance states.

Restricting social bonds and controlling sexuality are perennial tools of social and economic control precisely because of their innate power. Eroticism gives political movements life because within it we find meaning, strength, and the love and connection that form the basis of social change.

We know that all we need is already within our reach. We reject the gatekeeper’s paradigm of scarcity thinking, market solutions and industrial complexes in favour of abundance and compersion (opposite of jealousy and possessiveness). This interconnectedness, our basic trust in each other, can help us to overcome oppression and unlock new possibilities for healing on the collective and individual level. 
So many of us learned about our own sexuality through the lens of another — a clumsy lover, an erotophobic biology teacher, a shame inherited from someone else. But what is eroticism for you, actually? 
At COME ALIVE, we experience eroticism as a creative energy: an untameable, inexhaustible force that makes us feel alive and connected. It is a potent space for accepting contradictions, inviting us to inhabit and even enjoy the liminal spaces between pleasure or pain, masculine or feminine, dominant or submissive. Your imagination has no limits; there is no ‘one true way’. By staying in the unknown, the unconscious becomes conscious. 
Now it is your time to discover what makes you come alive.

This research paper was done in collaboration with Modem, an office for design and innovation, and industrial designer Maxime le Grelle, to explore the tension between technology and human connection. Networked Intimacy envisions the potential of interpersonal relationships in the connected age through a series of speculative hardware interventions.

Our devices are increasingly becoming the primary medium through which we relate to one another. Modem partnered with Morgan Catalina, holistic sexuality educator, and industrial designer Maxime le Grelle to explore the tension between technology and human connection. Networked Intimacy envisions the potential of interpersonal relationships in the connected age through a series of speculative hardware interventions.
What comes to mind when you think of intimacy? What does closeness – with a friend, family member, or romantic partner – feel like? Waking up in the middle of the night and wrapping your arm around your partner, quietly trying to sync your breath to theirs? Saying goodbye to your parents at the airport, feeling, on a sharp physical level, how the distance between you gradually expands? In a department store, picking up a perfume that an ex used to wear, as the scent momentarily brings memories to the surface?

As humans, we yearn to be intimate with others. We crave touch, embraces, shared emotions and stimulating conversations. Human intimacy is deeply embodied and multi-sensory – we respond to voices, touch and scent as much as we do to visual cues. Today interpersonal intimacy is also deeply technological: enabled by smartphones, laptops, apps and video calls. Not only is a text message notification from a loved one capable of producing a dopamine hit – we are now able to have relationships (friendly, professional, romantic) which are carried out entirely online, without ever meeting face-to-face. But in our increasingly digitised reality, are we truly satisfied with the level of connection current technology is able to provide?

BREATHING PODS — With digital technologies constantly competing for our attention, people are increasingly distracted in each other's company. It is scientifically proven that during a shared experience, people unconsciously synchronize bodily functions like heartbeat and breathing.The breathing pods helps to create a digitally-triggered version of this embodied connection. The pod’s shape and light expand and decrease in sync with the person's conversational partner — through holding their respective pods, two people can synchronize their breathing and establish a focused connection.
	SCENT DIFFUSING COLLAR — Scent is one of the most direct triggers for memories and emotions. Scientists believe that smell and memory are so closely linked because the anatomy of the brain allows olfactory signals to get to the limbic system very quickly. But in today’s communication technology, our sense of smell is often completely neglected.The collar releases a scent when interacting with others digitally. For the user, each unique scent is connected to a particular person and represents their intimate connection, such as the scent of their child's hair, their lover's skin or their home.
	TOUCH EMITTING PATCHES —
 The ritual of active greeting is declining in our increasingly digital communication. A physical greeting, a hug, and a handshake help create intimate connections through the production of the oxytocin hormone, which is instrumental to social bonding.The touch patches can be adhered to various places on the skin and worn under clothing. The liquid heat fluid flowing through the patch emits the feeling of touch or greeting from a distance.

FAKE ME HARD focused on a society increasingly defined by algorithmic logic, data extraction and fake news. 40 international artists created the complex world tangible through large-scale installations, performances, games, transforming AVL Mundo in Rotterdam into a place where the impact of technology on our lives is analyzed and turned inside out. The exhibition reflected on how people and technology can co-evolve.

FAKE ME HARD illustrated the temptations and threats to societies that are colonized by big tech. Humans and technology are inextricably linked, but we now have lost control. This leads to insights (were we ever in control?), but also presents us with new challenges. In exchange for convenience, we have all been made into raw material at the service of new masters. We will have to reconstruct our identity, integrity and create room to maneuver in a language of ones and zeros that is no longer our own. Deepfakes and conspiracy theories put us on the wrong track, while the myths and stories we connect with have difficulty surviving.

FAKE ME HARD let us see and experience how the “post-truth” society touches us on a deep and existential level. Rather than an “us” versus “them” discourse on who holds the truth, a deeper concern is growing: the realization that algorithmic logic is slowly but surely undermining our way of making meaning. FAKE ME HARD does not take a stand against technology, but shows how moving with and talking back to artificial intelligence (AI) helps us develop new 21st-century skills. We want to invest not only in making people robot-proof, but also, especially, in making AI and algorithms “human aware.”

In FAKE ME HARD, Team Human showed its colorful diversity, flexibility &#38;amp; resilience.

The 12th edition of WDCD Live in Amsterdam took place at the beautiful Muziekgebouw and featured an immersive programme of talks and workshops on design and climate justice. Together we explored how creative activism can be a powerful tool for disruption—and learned from the changemakers who are paving the way.&#38;nbsp;

Changing the course of the climate crisis means saving all that we can, while building a new way of life that is regenerative and restorative by design. It also means telling better stories about the world than those who are destroying it, and imagining a future that is more sustainable, equitable and beautiful than the past. During the festival, we explored what this might look like in practice through the lens of three core themes: Designing for Climate Justice, From Ancient Wisdom to AI, and Designing for the Circular Transition.
